I Don’t Want to Admit It…
For nearly a week I wondered why, and how, I was sleeping through my alarm every single morning. Was I staying up too late? Was I was really exhausted? I would wake up to Nathan kissing me on the cheek before leaving for work, but how the hell was I sleeping through my alarm clock every morning? It just didn’t make sense. Even if I was really tired, I’m sure I would have at least woken up enough to hit the snooze button. I don’t think it was going off at all.
To get to the bottom of it, I decided to do a little test. Fed up with sleeping in too late, I set my alarm to go off one minute from the current time. I sat there and watched the phone as I set it down on the nightstand. I waited. As a minute passed, the screen suddenly lit up with the alarm information. It should have been ringing through the phone’s speakers. Nada!
I checked the volume settings, and in the ringtone/vibration options. Everything was on, and set to its loudest setting. It was unusual that no sound was coming from the phone at all. Even when I tried to speed dial my fiance, it refused to make the little dialing sound through the speaker. So I asked him for help. He said I should pop the battery out for a minute and see if that helps. I argued that the battery or system had nothing to do with the issue at hand. I didn’t see how restarting the phone would fix the speaker, if the speaker was broken.
As the days went by, I attempted to use alarm clock applications on my iPad to get up on time. I wasn’t having much luck. It’s not that the alarms didn’t work, but that I didn’t like them. I also didn’t like having to unlock my iPad every time I wanted to hit the snooze button. So finally, I went to Verizon to seek technical assistance. I explained the problem, and the first thing the representative suggested was to take the battery out.
Oh my God, seriously? I nodded to the guy and told him I would try it. While my phone was rebooting, I left Verizon and headed to work. It takes several minutes for my Blackberry to start up. Once the phone had loaded, I hit speed dial to call my fiance. The dialing sound that occurs when speed dialing suddenly burst out of the speaker. I tried not to laugh out loud. Are you kidding me? That’s all I had to do in the first place, and it would have saved me all the trouble I had gone through with the iPad alarm clocks.
I guess if I had just listened to Nate in the first place, I would have had a working phone! Funny how he’s always right about things. Of course, I don’t care to admit that to him, but there’s no doubt in my mind that he already knows it. He’s got to feed that ego of his with something once in a while!
