Predicaments

Today was pretty crazy. I’m not sure if it was a good crazy, or a bad crazy. All I know is that first thing this afternoon I had to write a statement about the event that occurred yesterday between a customer and my co-worker. Her job was basically on the line, and of all things, I had to write a statement about what I witnessed. No pressure, right? The managers told me not to discuss the matter with anyone at work, but one of my co-workers had already warned me about having to write a statement the minute I walked into work. My description of the incident was a page and a half long. I spent almost a half hour writing exactly what I had witnessed. I may have felt a little pressure with having someone’s job on the line, but I was honest in my statement. I can only hope that my emphasis on the customer’s persistence and lack of ethic will be in favor of my co-worker.

After turning in my statement to the managers on duty, I was assigned to work on another end cap. The main manager really liked my pet bird end cap and wanted me to work on a wild bird seed end cap. I got started immediately, happy to have an inventive assignment to work on for the day. Then at five I had to attend a brief seminar on Canidae dog food, which I wasn’t totally thrilled about… Now don’t get me wrong, Canidae is a great quality food. However, it has never been a personal preference of mine. I was really not impressed with the Canidae representative. I stepped into the meeting about three minutes late and found myself stumbling into the last few sentences of his training session. Seriously? It hadn’t even been five minutes… That’s bull crap! I ended up walking out of the room. There wasn’t really a point in staying since no one was learning anything. Instead, the rep and my co-workers enjoyed a nice one hour break on the clock.

I barely had to be on the register all day. I never even counted in a drawer, which was really nice. I’ve been in that, “I don’t really want to be a cashier” mood lately where I would prefer to be on the floor stocking pallets or organizing end caps (my new specialty). Standing at the register can be so boring at times, especially when we aren’t all that busy… After work, two of my co-workers and I ended up hanging out in the parking lot. We talked for almost three hours straight. It was funny how our conversations escalated. Somehow we went from talking about work to talking about our bra sizes, birth control, menstrual cramps, Fibromyalgia, the dentist, car magnets, Pit Bulls pissing on Michael Vick, throwing spike strips at kids on bikes, ignorant people, racism, being “thrown under the bus” by people you thought you could trust, and many many other bizarre and totally random topics. Despite the series of completely unrelated discussions, I really enjoyed those three hours of nonsense.
